Joe Munger was the original trapper to homestead at Silver Salmon Creek in 1960.The original homestead was established in the early 1950's by a man named Joe Munger. He came to Silver Salmon Creek with his brother and lived in a tent for a couple of years before building his first cabin within this pristine wilderness area.

Joe met and married Sally Crouse in 1957 and added a second room with a fireplace. The Munger's homesteaded 160 acres in Silver Salmon Creek in 1960. Sally Crouse married Joe Munger in 1957 and shared the fireplace at Homestead Lodge.

Joe was a true Alaskan pioneer and had a trap line in the winter where he trapped beaver, wolverine, marten and fox; they also had a cabin on Chisik Island, along with three fishing sites. Both Joe and Sally fished in the summers and sold their catch to local canneries.

The original homestead has been renovated into a rustic, beautiful lodge for guests to enjoy amidst picturesque surroundings. The Alaska Homestead Lodge offers adventurous fun activities or the most relaxing environment you can imagine.
